The recent winter storm that traveled through Wyoming yesterday once again kept all members of the Wyoming Highway Patrol very busy.
In a 32 hour period (00:01 a.m. on Dec. 15th through 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 16th) WHP Troopers investigated 61 crashes statewide. 49 of those crashes were classified as property damage only. 10 were classified as having injury and two were classified as hit and run with property damage only. A silver lining from this storm is that zero fatal crashes were reported in this time period.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol Dispatch Center answered 2,433 phone calls and handled 567 events during the 32 hours. 129 of those calls were broken down or stranded motorists that were assisted by WHP Troopers.
Multiple highways still remain closed at this time. Our dispatch center is still currently being inundated with phone calls for when highways will re-open. We cannot emphasize enough that our dispatch center is not the place to obtain this information. An inquiry about road closures to our dispatch center takes up precious time that is needed to handle calls for emergencies.
The proper place to check on road conditions and updates on road closures is to visit www.wyoroad.info or call 511 or 1-888-WYO-ROAD.
