UW Athletics Seeks Info On Female Student-Athletes Prior to 1972

The University of Wyoming Athletics Department is asking for help in finding women who participated in sports at UW from 1960-1971—prior to the passage of Title IX in 1972.EZ_Cash 300x250_

According to UW, many women were competing in sports but weren’t recognized as student-athletes under the system in place at the time.

The Athletics Department is seeking information such as where they played, what sports they played, and and who did they play. UW Athletics is looking women who participated in any sport (basketball, volleyball, field hockey, gymnastics, etc.) at UW between the years of 1960 and 1971. They currently have a significant list compiled but are still looking for individuals or family members.

UW Athletics recognizes that these women played an important role in paving the way for female student-athletes today, and believes they deserve to be recognized for their abilities and achievements.

The University of Wyoming seeks to present these women with a varsity letter at a reception in June.

If you or anyone you know that played a sport, please contact Julie Manning ([email protected]) or Brandy Brummond ([email protected]) at the UW Athletic Department or fill out the questionnaire on the GoWyo.com website and return by May 31.
