Students in fifth through twelfth grades will have the opportunity to show off their basketball skills at an upcoming contest in Rock Springs. The Utah Jazz Fun Shot will be held at the Civic Center at 9:30 am on February 6, 2016, according to a release.
The event tests the shooting and dribbling skills of each individual, said Jason Buell, Recreation Supervisor at the facility. “The object is to score as many baskets as possible in one minute from any of five shooting spots on the game court. Each basket is assigned a point value based on the difficulty of the shot,” he explained.
The top two finishers in each grade level will advance to the area finals which will be held in Evanston later in February . The top finisher from each age group from that competition will advance to the final competition at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.
High school varsity basketball players are not allowed to compete in any Fun Shot competitions, based on rules established by Utah Jazz Fun Shot organizers, said JJ Syvrud, Superintendent of Civic Center Programs.
