ROCK SPRINGS – Working adults who are interested in completing a college degree or retooling their professional careers are invited to attend one of two upcoming open houses for the Western After Hours evening course program at Western Wyoming Community College.First Choice Buick GMC

The first informational session will be held Tuesday, July 19, at 6 p.m. in Room 208 of the Green River Center.

The second session will be held Wednesday, July 27, at 6 p.m. in Room 1309 at the Rock Springs campus.

Refreshments will be provided at both events.

Launched in Fall 2015, and supported by Sweetwater BOCES, Western After Hours is a program designed specifically to accommodate the schedules of working adults who would like to complete a two-year degree but who cannot attend classes during the day. Students should be able to complete all of their general-education requirements within two years by taking classes only at night.

Western After Hours also offers on-site evening child care, extended food service hours, and other support services for evening students. Information on class schedules, student services, and admissions and registration processes will be available at the upcoming open houses.

Evening students who will be attending college for the first time this fall, or who are returning to school after many years, will have the opportunity to prepare themselves with the First-Year Success Course (HDMV 1005-03) that will be offered on Mondays from 5:30 – 6:20 p.m. beginning Aug. 29 and concluding Dec. 5. This one-credit class helps students to develop the self-awareness, study habits, and sense of personal and social responsibility they will need to succeed in college.

Students who enroll in the evening First-Year Success class and pass it with a C or better will receive a $250 stipend toward books for Spring 2017 classes. This class is part of the Western After Hours evening schedule and may be taken by itself or in conjunction with other evening classes.

Western After Hours courses typically meet either at 5:30 or 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, meaning students may take two classes per evening for two evenings each week. Some evening courses are also available at the Green River Center. The complete Fall 2015 schedule is available at https://www.westernwyoming.edu/registration/pdf/schedule_fa16.pdf.
