UPDATE: Power was restored at 10:46 p.m.
UPDATE at 10:22 p.m.: 516 customers are without power, down from 1,341.
UPDATE at 10:12 p.m.: Paul Murphy with Rocky Mountain Power says about 1,341 customers who lost power earlier in the night and had power restored are back in the dark. It is assumed that the outage was again caused by lightning. Crews are back on location working to restore power to those customers again. They hope to have power restored within two hours.
Murphy said four other Rocky Mountain Power customers are without power about 50 miles south of Rock Springs near Highway 89. Crews are currently working to restore power in that outage.
UPDATE at 10:02 p.m.: Paul Murphy with Rocky Mountain Power says crews are currently working to restore power to about 353 customers in the Rock Springs area.
The outage occurred at 7:19 p.m and was caused by an open circuit breaker and was most likely the result of lightning. There is currently no estimated restoration time listed.
Another outage at 7:08 impacted 1,341 customers. Power in that outage was restored at 8:50 p.m.
UPDATE: As of 9:18 p.m. Rocky Mountain Power says about 578 Rocky Mountain Power customers in the Rock Springs area remain without power. They have moved up the estimated restoration time to about 10:30 p.m.
Oirginal: Several small power outages in the Rock Springs area have caused around 700 Rocky Mountain Power customers to be without power.
A Rocky Mountain Power representative said the outages have been caused by weather.
Crews are currently trying to locate the cause of each outage.
Because there are many smaller outages, it is difficult t determine an estimated time of restoration and some customers may get power before others.
A customer service representative said they hope to restore ower to all customers by 11:30 p.m.
