UPDATE: Rocky Mountain Power says power was restored at 11:03 a.m. During the repair, a circuit breaker at a substation was opened for approximately one minute which increased count to 5200 during that time.
ORIGINAL: A power outage in Rock Springs has impacted about 3300 Rocky Mountain Power customers and rendered multiple traffic lights inoperable.
According to Rocky Mountain Power representative Dave Eskelsen, the estimated restoration time is 2 p.m., although that time may vary as repairs are made.
Public Information Officer Alison Deters with the Rock Springs Police Department says power is still active at the traffic light at Dewar and Gateway, but the traffic lights west of that intersection are down—including at Dewar and Foothill.
Deters say the appropriate procedure when approaching a traffic light with no power is to treat it as a four-way stop.
RSPD currently does not have any officers in the area for traffic control, but Deters said they may add officers to the area as they are available to do so.
Eskelsen, the Rocky Mountain Power representative, said the outage occurred at about 9:44 a.m. and was caused by a failed connection on a power line. During repairs, a switch was opened to make repairs possible. This resulted in the larger power outage of 3300 customers.
