On April 9, 2016 at approximately 6:10 p.m., Detectives with the RSPD Street Crimes Unit, along with Agents from DCI-SWET, executed a Search and Seizure Warrant involving the person of Judson Barney (29) of Rock Springs. After Officers observed Barney in a silver Jeep registered to Mitchell Bernard (29) of Rock Springs and attempted a traffic contact, the vehicle fled. The vehicle fled from Detectives and to the area behind Wardell Court where the vehicle stopped.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Bernard, exited the vehicle and ran on foot towards the area of G Street. The passenger of the Jeep, later identified as Judson Barney, moved to the driver’s seat and continued to flee from Agents and Detectives. Barney was stopped a short time later on the 600 block of Massachusetts Ave by multiple units without further incident.
RSPD Officers responded to the area to search for Bernard, however Bernard was not located and remains at large.
Officers recovered a bag that was discarded from the vehicle containing a large amount of a white crystalline substance inside. The white crystalline substance was later field tested and was found to be presumptive positive for approximately 330 grams (or ¾ pound) of Methamphetamine. During the search of the vehicle, Detectives recovered a digital scale with residue on it as well as a glass pipe commonly used to smoke Methamphetamine.
Barney was subsequently placed under arrest for Possession of Methamphetamine (Felony) and Interference with a Peace Officer.
