No injuries were reported this morning after a Sweetwater County School District #1 bus and a commercial truck struck a downed and active power line in Rock Springs.
Police were dispatched to a downed power line in the area of the intersection of Second and A Streets at about 6:10 a.m., according to Rock Springs Police Department public information officer Alison Deters.
An investigation found that a power line was hanging low over the street when a semi-truck hit the line, followed by a school bus soon after. The line stretched over A Street near the main office of RSNB.
No injuries were reported.
School District officials said no children were on the bus at the time of the incident, and the driver was the only person inside the bus. The bus involved was Sweetwater County School District #1 bus number 64. The bus did not sustain any damage, according to district officials.
Power was turned off to the line, and one residence on A Street was left without power as crews worked to repair the damage.
While a spokesman from Rocky Mountain Power was unavailable, a worker at the scene said they hope to restore the home with power by mid-afternoon.
Deters says it is currently unknown why the line was hanging so low.
