A local Zumba Instructor will be featured in an upcoming documentary.
Andrea Johnson, a fitness instructor at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center, has been in the fitness industry for 11 years.
A film crew from Zumba® Fitness of Hallandale, Florida will follow Johnson for several days, filming her work and day-to-day life. The crew will be present to film Johnson’s Zumba® class at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 27, at the Rec Center.
Local residents Holly Gollaher, Kayla Kendrick and Jaysha Eikanger will also be interviewed by the film crew for the documentary to illustrate the positive impact Zumba® has had on their lives.
“Together Holly, Kayla and Jaysha have lost over 170 pounds,” Johnson said.
Johnson credits her students, peers and coworkers for her success with the Zumba® program. “It is a huge honor to have the filming crew come to our little town to capture what is going on at our Rec Center,” she said. “I encourage anyone who loves Zumba® to please join us! If you’re a newbie who is curious to see what all the excitement is about, Monday night is the perfect time to try Zumba for your first time. No dance experience is needed.”
“When I set out on this journey with Zumba ® six years ago, I wanted two things. I wanted Rock Springs residents to fall in love with Zumba ® the way I had. Second, I wanted to be a bigger part of the Zumba® movement. I imagined teaching and educating not only students, but peers as well. So after six years of hard work, six years of doing what I do, the best I know how to, my dream has come true,” Johnson explained.
During her fitness classes, Johnson tells her students, “Never stop reaching for your goals and make your goals a reality by never giving up. Failure is part of success and once you embrace that reality, the sky is your limit.”
“The enthusiasm Andrea and our other fitness instructors have is the key to the success of our program,” said Dave Lansang, Director of Parks & Recreation. “We are very proud of the way they motivate our patrons and are always excited to see what new ideas they have in store.”
When Johnson is not teaching classes or coaching students who are enrolled in her online Health Academy, you’ll often find her and her husband taking their kids to hockey tournaments, horse shows and soccer games. Johnson is also a student at Western Wyoming Community College. She is currently taking classes to earn her Associates in Science Degree with an emphasis on Exercise Science. She holds a Group Fitness Certificate from the American Council on Exercise along with various teaching certifications and licenses.
