According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, 66-year-old Nick Sanchez died after his motorcycle left the highway in heavy rain.

Sanchez was traveling north on a 2011 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle at about 5:33 p.m. on June 12th on Wyoming State Highway 530 about 13 miles south of Green River. WHP says he was traveling at a high rate of speed in the downpour, and he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. He left the highway to the east and was thrown from his motorcycle as it rolled multiple times.

Sanchez was wearing a helmet but sustained fatal injuries on scene.

Speed and wet road conditions are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash.

This marked the 33rd highway fatality in Wyoming in 2016. During the same time period in 2015, there were 56 highway fatalities in the state.
