The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Freeze Warning effective from midnight until 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
The Freeze Warning is in effect for Sweetwater, Fremont, Natrona, Sublette, and Lincoln Counties.
Bill Murrell, a meteorologist with the Riverton office of the National Weather Service, says below freezing temperatures could have an impact on vegetation in the area.
“We are expecting temperatures to drop into the lower to mid-twenties tonight. So it’s going to be a hard freeze,” said Murrell. “Any plants that are susceptible to even a light freeze should be taken indoors. Or anyone that has planted a garden early trying to get spring going needs to get out there and cover up their garden to make sure that it doesn’t get harmed.”
In addition to temperatures dropping into the 20’s, Murrell says there are other concerns with the weather this evening and overnight.
“This evening you could actually see some light rain and snow and even some very small hail as a very cold system continues to move across the Cowboy State,” Murrell said.
The weather should start to improve as the week moves on, though. Murrell said the weather should start to dry out and temperatures will increase. A warming trend is expected to bring temperatures in the 50’s on Wednesday, 60’s on Thursday, and even has potential to break into the 70’s on Saturday.
The good beginning to the weekend should be enjoyed, though, because wet weather and thunderstorms could be back Sunday.
