ROCK SPRINGS – A free night for Western Wyoming Community College Basketball has been rescheduled for Feb 13, 2016.
United Steelworkers Locals 13214 and 15320 will sponsor the annual Labor Night – Free Night for Mustang basketball beginning at 3 p.m. at WWCC, according to a release from WWCC. Both the Mustang men’s and women’s teams will play Region IX North rival Northwest College.
There will be free admission to both games. Hot dogs, popcorn, candy, and beverages will also be free. Prizes will be given away during the course of the games.
This year’s Labor Night event was rescheduled from its original date of Jan. 30 due to uncertainty about whether both of Western’s Jan. 30 opponents from Montana’s Little Big Horn College would be able to make the trip. As of now, those games are still scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, but the United Steelworkers Locals elected to change the date of their Labor Night promotion to Feb. 13 to ensure that fans would be able to enjoy two games compliments of the United Steelworkers.
Updates on the status of the Jan. 30 contests will be announced as they become available.
“We very much appreciate the United Steelworkers’ decision to select a new date for their annual Labor Night promotion,” said Mustang Athletic Director Lu Sweet. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, there is a chance that one of the Little Bighorn teams might not be able to make the trip to Rock Springs this week. We know that Labor Night is a very popular annual event for the community, and everyone wanted to make sure that we would have two exciting basketball games for our fans to see. Northwest College will now be our opponent for Labor Night, and these will be big-time rivalry games, for sure.”
The women’s game vs. NWC begins at 3 p.m. on Feb. 13 and is followed by the men’s game at 5 p.m. in Rushmore Gymnasium. Western Wyoming Community College and Mustang Athletics thank United Steelworkers Locals 13214 and 15320 for their continuing support of this event.
