Recycle your Christmas tree this holiday season and give a gift back to the environment.
The City of Rock Springs Parks & Recreation Department will offer free Christmas tree recycling from December 26th through the end of January, said Mark Lyon, Parks Superintendent.
“The benefit for recycling Christmas trees is twofold,” Lyon explained. “First, we are not putting green waste into and adding to our landfill and second the trees are recycled and used as mulch to enhance the health of our urban forest.”
To recycle your tree, please drop it off at 200 Community Park Drive during daylight hours. Remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights and tree stands before dropping your tree off. The City is unable to accept flocked trees, wreaths or other green waste, Lyon said.
Trees placed curbside are landfilled, so please drop-off your tree for recycling instead. Signs are in place on Elk Street and Community Park Drive to help direct citizens to the drop off location, Lyon said.
