A Fort Washakie man died in a crash near Ethete on Monday.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, 50-year-old Tyron Trosper died in a crash that occurred at about 6:39 p.m. Monday near mile post 12 on Wyoming State Highway 132, approximately five miles north of Ethete.
Trosper was a passenger in a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup that was being driven by 29-year-old Ethete resident Rita Willow. The Ford was traveling north on WY 132 when the truck left the highway to the east and was overcorrected to the left. The overcorrection caused the truck to travel over the centerline of the highway at which time the truck was overcorrected to the right. The second overcorrection caused the truck to roll and come to rest in the east ditch.
Neither occupant in the truck were wearing seat belts during the crash. Trosper was ejected and sustained fatal injuries on scene. Willow remained in the cab of the truck during the crash and was transported by helicopter ambulance to Wyoming Regional Medical Center in Casper, where she has been hospitalized.
Suspected alcohol use and the lack of seat belt use are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash that marked the 50th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 75 fatalities during this same time period in 2015.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is conducting the crash investigation. Any potential charges will be filed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as the crash occurred on the Wind River Indian Reservation with Tribal Members.
