Rock Springs Main Street/URA Press Release—What do beer, Janis Joplin and ballet have in common?  They’re all part of Ballet West’s upcoming performance at the Broadway Theater in Rock Springs – Beer & BalletRS Airport

Ballet West will bring their unique Beer & Ballet to the Broadway Theater on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 7:00 p.m..  Who doesn’t enjoy the finer things and kicking back with a few good brews?  What better way to enjoy some choice choreography than with a few cold ones in hand? So it goes without saying that we are anxious for Ballet West’s Beer & Ballet at the Broadway Theater. The evening promises to be chockablock full of elegance, pas de deux, and suds from Bitter Creek Brewery.

According to Ballet West’s press director, Joshua Jones, the idea came about quite easily. “We just really needed another reason to have a drink! …And watching ballet after a couple of beers always elevates the experience,” Jones said.

“Truthfully, we had young patrons requesting an event that was more their style. Something really casual, easy, and fun. No black ties, no hoity talk, no monocles allowed,” Jones joked.

Of course, everyone is invited and casual attire is suggested, nothing uptight for this show! The Broadway Theater board of director’s hopes this will be the first opportunity for many to experience the beauty of ballet in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Dancers from Ballet West will be performing “Peace of My Heart,” choreography by Resident Choregrapher Nicolo Fonte.  The performance mixes music by Janis Joplin with contemporary ballet.  “Peace of My Heart,” premiers in Greeley, CO just a few days before the show at the Broadway Theater in Rock Springs.

Choreographer Nicolo Fonte has created over 40 new works for dance companies spanning the globe, garnering praise and generating excitement for his daring and theatrical approach to dance. The Australian Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet and The Dutch National Ballet, among many others, all have works of his in their repertoire. Whether made to Ravel’s brash Bolero or the quiet intricacy of a Bach violin piece, Fonte ballets have common ground: “The choreography is inventive, creating expressive original shapes built on an undercurrent of implicit human relationships” (Foyer/ Dance Europe). “What impresses the most is that his choreography is obviously the result of a personal reflexion – distinctly and unmistakably Fonte, proof of a rare quality” (Michel Odin / Danse).

In addition to dancing his overwhelmingly successful “Bolero” and the enigmatic “Immeasurable Cadences Within,” since becoming Resident Choreographer for Ballet West in 2012, Nicolo has created the very powerful and exciting “The Rite of Spring” and the jarringly beautiful “Presto,” both to audience and critical acclaim.

Tickets for Beer & Ballet are $10 and available at the Rock Springs Main Street/URA office, Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce or online at DowntownRS.com.  Beer & Ballet is sponsored in part by Sweetwater BOCES, the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation and 1st Bank.
