Sports Authority announced yesterday that the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. As a result of the filing and the company’s long-term plan, the company intends to close approximately 140 stores nationwide.RS Airport

The Rock Springs location has not been listed as one of the stores to close in court documents filed yesterday in the United States Bankruptcy Court For The District Of Delaware. Management from the local store confirmed that the Rock Springs Sports Authority is not one of the locations listed to close, but added they cannot speak on behalf of the company.

A message from Sports Authority CEO Michael Foss was sent to many Sports Authority customers.

“This was a tough decision to make, but we believe it was a necessary step in our plan to make Sports Authority an even better partner for our customers. The store closings will occur over the next three months,” Foss said in the message.
