Dana J. Trujillo, 38, died after the truck she was riding in rolled about six miles west of Riverton.

According to WHP, Trujillo was the passenger in a 2002 Ford F-250 pickup driven by 21-year-old Shawn Pendleton, also from Riverton. The truck was traveling south on Arroyo Lane, a non-paved road, when it left the road to the east. The pickup traversed an embankment, crossed back over Arroyo Lane, left the road to the west, and rolled.

Trujillo was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected during the crash, sustaining fatal injuries on scene. A second passenger, 28 year old Riverton resident Elise Pagnoni, was wearing her seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. She was transported to Sage West Hospital in Riverton and was treated and released.

Pendleton was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash. He allegedly fled the scene on foot and was later apprehended by deputies with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and a residence south of the crash site. Pendleton was also taken to Sage West Hospital.

Impaired driving and speed are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash.

Charges against Pendleton are pending.

Dana Trujillo marked the fifth highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 10 fatalities during this same time period in 2015.
