A California resident and a New York resident were arrested near Laramie on Saturday after Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers found about 292 pounds of marijuana in a U-Haul rental truck during a traffic stop.
The U-Haul was stopped for speeding at about 4 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 80 about 18 miles west of Laramie, according to a release from Wyoming Highway Patrol. Confusing and conflicting stories and the admission to marijuana in the truck led to a WHP K-9 alerting to the presence of a controlled substance in a couch in the back of the moving truck. Troopers allegedly found the large amount of marijuana stashed in multiple furniture items in the U-Haul.
With the assistance of the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, Troopers arrested 41-year-old Brooklyn, New York resident Jia Jun Yu and 48-year-old San Francisco, California resident Kwok Lun Chow. Both men have been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and felony conspiracy to deliver.
The marijuana is believed to have originated out of the Seattle, Washington area and was destined for New Jersey. The seized marijuana has an estimated street value of $1,068,000.
